Oral
and poster presentations on any topic relating to Animal Behaviour
will be accepted.
Abstracts
should be no longer than 250 words. For a guide to writing abstracts,
view the programs of previous ASSAB
conferences. Abstract submission forms are included with the Registration
forms. Please submit these together if possible. The deadline for
abstracts is February 28, 2008. Please note the earlier than usual
deadline brought about by an early Easter.
Oral
presentations
Oral
Presentations should be of 15 minutes total duration, including questions.
How you use this 15 minutes is up to you, although we suggest 12 minutes
to talk and 2 - 3 minutes for questions as a good formula. If you
plan to use a PowerPoint or Keynote presentation (both MAC and PC
computers will be provided), please bring a copy of the file on CD
and submit it to conference organizers during registration. We recommend
that you also bring a backup copy and keep this with you. Be sure
to let us know of any specific requirements for your presentation.
Prizes
will be awarded for the best student Oral Presentations. All speakers
registered as student members will be eligible for prizes.
Poster
presentations
While oral presentations will be strictly limited to the number of
slots available, there is scope for more flexibility with posters.
While delegates will only be allowed one talk, it will be possible
to present a poster in addition to the talk, or to present two posters.
We would especially like to encourage students at early stages of
their research to consider a poster presentation. They are an excellent
format for soliciting feedback.
Posters
should be prepared using a font large enough for comfortable reading,
and should not include too much text. In general, a poster should
make only one major point. Relevant background information, methods,
results (including statistics) and a brief discussion of the implications
of the results should be included. Posters should not be larger than
A0 (84.1 cm wide, 118.9 cm high). Posters may be fastened with drawing
pins or Velcro. Bring a backup copy of your poster on CD - if anything
happens to your printed poster we can arrange a quick trip to the
local Kinkos to print and laminate a replacement.
Posters
are expected to have a very high profile in this year's meeting. They
will be available for viewing during breaks throughout the conference
adjacent to the theatre in which talks will be presented, and there
will be a special evening poster session with drinks. Prizes will
be awarded for the best student posters. As with oral presentations,
all poster presenters registered as student members will be eligible
for prizes.
Photo
contest
This year we will continue the Animal Behaviour Photo Contest
that was introduced so successfully at the ASSAB06 meeting. It will
be open to all delegates. Up to three photos may be submitted. Bring
your photos as A4 prints and submit them to the registration desk.
We will provide plain mattes for mounting of the photos, which will
be available for viewing throughout the conference. Winners will be
determined by popular vote.
